Workforce and organization consulting in Metro Atlanta
LSPT supports Metro Atlanta employers with workforce planning, organizational responsibilities, HR practices and preparation for change, including the staffing and scheduling needs of multiple locations.
Considering location and schedules in your workforce plan
The location of a worksite affects commuting time, available transit and the employees it can realistically reach. Employers in Midtown, Alpharetta, South Fulton or Gwinnett may need to consider different travel conditions when planning staffing and schedules.
A shift that ends after transit service or a worksite with significant parking costs can affect whether someone is able to accept or keep a role. Workforce planning can consider those requirements alongside staffing levels, skills and labor costs.
Regional commuting information
The Atlanta Regional Commission’s 2025 commuter survey found that, among workers who commute, 74% of office workers teleworked at least occasionally. That fell to 32% for health-related workers and 28% for education workers. These figures exclude people who work from home full time. Most regional commuters still drive alone, and respondents identified time, transit access and incompatible hours as barriers to other options.
- 81.6% drove alone
- as their primary commute mode in 2025, up from 79.7% in 2019.
- 47% cited longer travel time
- as a barrier to using an alternative way to get to work.
- 44% had no transit available
- for the trip, while 35% said their work hours were incompatible.
Questions about access to the worksite
Travel time and costs can affect the practical appeal of a role alongside its responsibilities and pay. These questions can help you examine the commute and schedule requirements employees face.
Where do employees travel from?
Consider the worksite, shift times and typical traffic when examining commuting distances. Distance alone may not give a useful picture of how long the journey takes.
What travel costs are involved?
Consider parking, tolls, fuel, vehicle requirements and travel time alongside the advertised pay. These costs can affect whether a role is practical for a prospective employee.
Which responsibilities need to be performed on site?
Review the on-site requirements of each role and whether the schedule still fits them. Useful flexibility may involve remote work, stable shifts, a different start time or more schedule choice, depending on the responsibilities.
